Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this and/or has an idea of how to solve it. My desktop has the following specs:
Intel i7 4790k @ stock, Asus Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac), 2x8GB Crucial DDR3 1600MHz, EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3
Ever since Windows 10 has hit, I've run into the same situation each time the major build is updated. System runs perfectly fine, and then I install the new build (1609, 1703, 1709, etc.). After the upgrade is installed, it runs fine for a short while (between a day and a week), and then it becomes unstable. In particular, plugging in a USB device into the system will begin to lock up Explorer (ie. I can work with opened app, but trying to launch anything new or interact with things on the windows desktop results in spinny circle), and I have to do a hard shut down to get the system back again. Then it'll run for a few hours, but either plugging in a USB device or letting the system get to a soft sleep state (ie. monitor display turning off) will lock up explorer again.2407wfp
Download the media creation tool, create an installer for the latest build, wipe the drive and install fresh, and things go back to working normally. This has happened for the last 4 Windows 10 build updates, and I've seen it crop up once or twice as well when a cumulative update is installed. I waited until this week to try installing 1803 to see if maybe it was initial platform stuff, but the second I installed it, the same thing happened. I just restored my system from the backup I took before hand this time (didn't want to spend the time on a fresh install during the week), but I may try the fresh install this weekend.
Anyone have any thoughts?Dell
